December 11th – Christmas Movies Part 2

Hello dears,

Sunday is the perfect day for watching movis, don’t you think? I’m on my second movie of the day actually. No better way to spend your day doing nothing but watching movies.

Today I’ll give you my part 2 of my Christmas movies list. There are so many movies that will give you the holiday spirit, and here are some of them

***

The Family Stone starring big names such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Keaton and Rachel McAdams is on of my favorites. It has got humour, a great story, a bit of a sad – yet romantic ending + it will give you that fuzzy Christmas-is-all-about-family-feeling inside ;)

Jack Frost is a TV-movie from the late 90s. It’s a sad story really, but it is also extremely heart-warming and cheerful as well. I love how realistic Mr. Frost is.

Surviving Christmas is extremely funny, almost on the edge of being annoying. Ben Affleck does a great job playing an overly eager businessman, while James Gandolfini brings a bit of mafia-blood to the family ;)

A few years ago I discovered Jingle All the Way. It’s a sweet family movie about getting the perfect Christmas gift for your child, There’s nothing stopping Mr. Schwarzenegger in this movie.

I hope you all enjoy this pre-Christmas Sunday. We’re almost half way there people!

December 9th – Christmas Booklist

Dears,

I wish you all a happy friday! Even in December fridays mean Book Friday, so today I’m giving you a list of perfect Christmas reads. I have read all of these myself, so I promise you they’re good :)

***

First off is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I read anything Dickens during Christmas, but this is of course my favourite during the holidays. We all know this story, and the great thing is that you can find this book in every thinkable size, edition, cover etc. you can think of.

***

I was so insecure about this book when I first got it. I thought it sounded a bit cheesy and boring, but I ended up laughing all through it. It’s about the Krank’s family, and how they decide to skip Christmas one year. But in the end…things don’t always go the way you plan!  Skipping Christmas is written by John Grisham, and the movie based on the book is also great!

***

The Christmas Train by David Baldacci is actually a very cosy Christmas read. A train is stuck in a snowstorm, and the big question is: will the passagers make it home for Christmas?

***

When I was little, this was my favourite Christmas-book. ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore is actually a poem more than a story. You can find the text online, but I think it’s a great tradition to look at all the wonderful illustrations as you go along reading. I get so sentimental reading this book aloud the night before Christmas Day.

***

I laughed so hard when I found this book in a local store. I bought one copy for myself and another for a friend who has the same twisted humour as I have. This book has some great, wicked illustrations, and the story is a bit grotesque (but amazing)! Santa Claws is written by Laura Leuck.

***

On lazy Christmas days I love reading about the Grinch. How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss gives you a good laugh, but also a heartwarmning story.

***

I always get so much Christmas spirit by reading Christmas books, and I hope you find some spare time during the holidays to read some of them as well. They are truly magical!

December 8th – Gifts for Her

Hi everyone!

Can you believe we’re already on December 8th? I feel like I haven’t done as much Christmas things as I should have.

Today I thought I’d give you a Christmas gift idea for a special female. I know I can’t get enough gift ideas before the holiday, so here’s a little tip from me.

I love shopping at Ruche. If I had the chance, I would order everything on ther website. But these particular things will make THE loveliest gifts. For every tea-drinking lady out there, I present to you:

bird teapot

cupcake teacup

teafilter

I hope you’ve gotten some inspiration from these amazing tea-thingies. Tomorrow I’ll be back with a Christmas book list. Yay! See you then.

December 7th – Christmas Stockings

Good morning dears,

do you still have your own Christmas stocking? If so, is it the same one you’ve had since you was little or has it changed? I still have my old one from when I was a kid. I don’t think I could ever change it. If I had to buy myself a new one, I would definitely chose one of these:

***

A modern take on vintage looking stockings. I love that these are white/beige colored. They look so simple, but still cozy. You can DIY with the help of Susie Harris.

You know I love reindeers for Christmas. This stocking has a raindeer, it’s beautiful and it’s made by ThreeRedApples on Etsy. LOVE-LY!

May I please have this leather Christmas stocking? It’s just so chic and antique looking! It’s sold by moxieandoliver on Etsy.

Sophie Parker makes lovely illustrations. These stockings are decorated with a tipsy badger: super-cool and super-sweet!

I’ll write posts on stocking fillers later on in December, so watch out for tips on what to fill these sweethearts with soon!

December 6th – Beautiful Decorations

Dears,

do you have a place you have to visit every Christmas, just to look at the decorations? I used to long for my toy store when I was little. They had a cat sleeping underneath a Christmas tree, and you could actually see the cat breathing! The cat was there every year, and so it became a tradition for me and my mom to visit this toy store every Christmas.

I no longer have this kind of tradition, but I swear that if I could, I would check out these places every single Christmas:

***

The Rockefeller Center – New York. I would in fact check out all of what New York has to offer during the holidays.

Laduree in Paris. I went here for Easter, and I can only imagine what this store makes out of the Christmas holiday. I bet you it is something delicious!

A place I do visit ever year is Oslo. Oslo is so lovely decorated during Christmas, it’s a delight walking up and down the main street Karl Johan.

Once again – Paris. This is their amazing shopping center Galerie Lafayette. It is breathtaking all year around, but just look at this Christmas photo! I mean – WOW!

Do you know any similar places with lovely Christmas decorations? Please send me a photo or leave a comment. I love daydreaming about these kind of places.

December 5th – Christmas Movies Part 1

Hello my dears,

happy monday! I hope everybody’s weekend was amazing, and that you got to do something Christmasy?

Last night we watched the first Christmas movie of the season; I saw mommy kissing Santa Clause. I don’t care if it got terrible reviews, when it comes to Christmas movies they can make them as crappy as they like; I’m still going to watch them.

The movie definitely helped getting me into some Christmas mood, and so today I’m going to give you a list of some of my all time favorite Christmas movies! These are the movies I watch every single year, and I never get tired of them. Please feel free to watch some of them or all of them before Christmas!

***

Christmas Vacation is my holy grail of Christmas movies. I love this one so much, I always save it for the night before Christmas. I love that Leonard from The Big Bang Theory has a role in this movie.

Christmas with the Kranks is a fun, festive movie featuring the ultimate Christmas-man Tim Allen. You can even read the book written by John Grisham (I read it every year).

How the Grinch stole Christmas is wacky, fun and a classic. I love all the Dr. Seuss shapes and colors, Jim Carrey’s amazingness and the teary ending.

If you want a more grown-up Christmas movie The Holiday is simply magical and amazing. There is an English cottage in this movie that is my number one dream home…seriously!

A similar film to The Holiday is Love Actually. This movie has Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, Keira Knightly, Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson etc. etc…Do I need to say more?

There are so many versions of the movie A Christmas Carol out there. You can watch the Muppets-version, the animated Jim Carreys-version, the vintage version or the Mickey Mouse Disney-version. There are so many remakings of this one, you are garuanteed to find one that fits you best. I will gladly watch them all.

Last, but not least: Home Alone. This is a classic in our house. We watch the 1st and 2nd movie every year, and I laugh out loud every time. Amazing…

***

I hope you’ll pick up some of these movies before Christmas. It’s the best way to prepare for the holiday, and it’s also a great way to entertain. Imagine inviting all your friends for a Christmas movie night, drinking hot chocolate and watching some Christmas classics on the tube. Lovely!

Part 2 of this blog post will be posted in a few days, so watch out for more movie recommendations soon!

December 4th – Gingerbread Houses

Happy sunday everyone!

Today is gingerbread-baking-day here in our house, and so I thought it would be fun to find some fun gingerbread house ideas on the web. Personally I will make gingerbread dachshund this year. I’ll decorate them with candy and chocolate.

Last year I made Hogwarts castle in gingerbread (oh, yes I did). It ended up looking like a scary house from the world of Tim Burton – all crooked and weird. It was a LOT of fun…even though it looked kind of creepy and massive on our dining table.

Here are some gingerbread houses that look absolutely awesome:

All nice, pink, girly and fluffy from The TomKat Studio

A gingerbread farmhouse from King Arthur Flour

The perfect gingerbread houses to serve your friends and family at a Christmas party, from Not Martha

A gingerbread castle bundt cake from Georgia Pellegrini

December 3rd – Gifts for Him

Hello dears,

every single Christmas I wonder what gift to get my husband. He never writes me a Christmas list, he never utter any wishes at all. So, there I am stuck in choices of what to give him.

This year was an easy one. I will not reveal the actual gift here on the blog (of course!), but I will give you a tip. I think this is the perfect Christmas gift to give a special boy/man.

This is an alarm clock (they call it an alarm dock) – because: it’s actually just a piece of wood that looks like a regular alarm clock. What you do is download an alarm clock app to your iPhone and stick the phone onto this docking station. Amazing, right? It also looks super classy on the nightside table!

The alarm dock is available through Areaware, and you can download the app here.

December 2nd – Dachshund Christmas Card

My dears,

I promised you dachshund-fun, and here it is. I found these LOVELY Christmas cards on Etsy, and…I fell in love.

How ADORABLE is this little dachshund from monkeyminddesign? I think I awnser for all dachsy-parents when I say: you nailed it!

My dachshund is so moody. He can be so cranky sometimes, that he actually reminds me of a tiny Ebenezer Scrooge. I imagine my little dachsy will walk around Christmas Eve saying: “Bah! Humbug!”, just for the fun of it.

If you want to make a dachshund parent smile this Christmas, make sure you order him/her a card here.
